Chapter Seventeen

“Harland wolves, also known colloquially as ‘Hell Hounds’, once roamed across the entire continent. One of Kal’s masterpieces, the creature is an athletic specimen of power and beauty that can run for hours on end without tiring. Standing tall as a desert horse, it’s a short-haired beast of midnight-black or brindle coat. The wolves’ jaws are hugely powerful, with sabre-like canines that overlap the lower lip. Living in packs governed by an Alpha couple, they were one of the few predators to frequently venture outside of the forested chasms, hunting within ranges of up to a thousand square miles. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case.

Due to the devastating slaughter a pack of Harland wolves could wreak on an expensive domestic herd, they were fiercely targeted by livestock farmers. Entire packs were killed by poison-laced baits, or captured by the vicious teeth of bear traps. Sadly, within a few generations, Harland wolves were largely reduced to bit parts in scary bedtime stories.”
